Meet the team who make day-to-day decisions about running Cheshire Community Development Trust and lead the organisation in making that positive change.
We couldn’t offer the amazing support and services we provide to our community without the hard work and dedication of our fantastic staff and volunteers. The strength of the organisation lies with their unwavering ability to remain positive and focused in the face of constant challenges. All of our staff and volunteers are non-judgmental, great listeners and they have a common, heartfelt desire to make a real positive change to our community.
Mike Jenkins – Chief Executive
Mike joined Cheshire Community Development Trust as Chief Executive in August 2017 following 10 years as a senior manager with the Stroke Association. He joined with over 20 years of senior management experience gained with several private sector organisations including British Aerospace, Pilkington’s and latterly MBNA Europe Bank before moving into the charity sector in 2005. Mike was also a board member and Non-Executive Director with Western Cheshire Primary Care Trust.
Whilst Mike originally started his career as an engineer, with a degree in Physics, he moved into project management and sales and marketing before joining MBNA and the Stroke Association. Mike has held senior positions with responsibility for operational line management, project development and re-engineering, project management, training & development, management education and human resources. Mike’s last position in MBNA was Head of Community Relations, which was one of the catalysts for him to leave and seek a new challenge in the voluntary sector.
Mike is committed to the work and support that Cheshire CDT are able to provide to the local community and is keen to ensure that he leads the charity’s goals in providing quality support for the local area. Mike lives in Chester and is married to Gill and has two sons.
Tracey Walford – Deputy Chief Executive
Tracey has lived in Northwich for over 40 years. She has a keen interest in Interior Design, fashion, cooking and travelling to far off lands where the sun shines bright.
Tracey has been employed with CCDT since 1992 andhasseentheorganisation develop and grow in many ways during that time. She has a background in hospitality, having worked for Piccolino in Knutsford for 3 years. She also has expertise in the Welfare to Work Sector, helping long-term unemployed individuals get back to work. During her time with the Cheshire CDT, Tracey has also managed several DWP projects. More recently, she has achieved her PRINCE2 Practitioner level qualification, as well as an NVQ in Management.
Keith Howell – Transport Manager
Keith joins the Trust with a wealth of experience in public service with spells working for Surrey County Council, Warrington Borough Council, Trafford Metropolitan Council, Manchester City Council and Willow Park Housing Trust.
As a senior manager working for the City Council he spent 18 months on secondment to Manchester 2002, the organisation responsible for delivering a world class sports event, the Commonwealth Games. Rising to the challenge of planning and coordinating high class Sport Venues in the North West and back in native Surrey for the shooting events. Customer service and community development became something of a passion for him when helping the City of Manchester to make most of the legacy of the commonwealth games. One of his notable achievements was leading a team to establish a community project in Wythenshawe: creating the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre with a multitude of community groups and statutory partners.
His background in teaching, sport management, major event management and latterly with the Wythenshawe Housing Group’s Community Development projects means that he has a great knowledge and practise working with people at many levels. Keith joined the trust as a part time Driver/Passenger assistant in June 2017 having taken early ‘retirement’ in 2013: since then he has delivered front line services and regained his passion for customer engagement; working with, and now leading the transport team, to provide the essential services which enables people to maintain active lives.
His interests include gardening, travel, golf and rugby: golf is his new active sport with Rugby a distant dream, although the odd trip to watch Sale Sharks keeps the memories alive.
Jackie Ellison-Simcock – Family Support manager
Jackie started working with Cheshire CDT in January 2006 as project manager for the family / community support team. At the time there were 4 family support workers based within schools throughout the Cheshire area. Jackie worked with education improvement partners and over a 2 year period the team of 4 became a team of 12 covering Northwich, Winsford, Rural Cheshire, Helsby and Frodsham. This continued for a couple of years until funding ceased. At this point the project manager position also came to an end. Luckily for us the schools valued the service we provided and continued to fund the positions themselves with Jackie moving into one of these schools in 2010. Prior to Cheshire CDT Jackie worked for Connections and was based within HMP service and worked with offenders during their stay and upon leaving, mainly around up-skilling, employment, housing and benefits. Jackie has also worked with ex-substance abusers, supporting them with training, employment and education. When Jackie isn’t working you will often find her out walking and training her two dogs.
Brian Whitwood – Adult and Community Learning Manager
Brian volunteered with Cheshire Community Development Trust in 2011, assisting with employability workshops and IT courses. He gained his teaching qualification and started working as a tutor in September 2012, gaining the Community Learning in Cheshire Tutor of the Year award in 2013. He specialises in teaching IT and Maths, and has recently taken additional responsibilities for the Adult Learning department. He is passionate about helping people achieve the best they can and has an excellent track record of helping learners gain independence or qualifications.
After working in East Anglia for the local co-operative society as Systems Manager, Brian moved to Cheshire 30 years ago to work in the IT department at CWS as Business Analyst responsible for supply chain management. Brian has held several senior roles with various organisations throughout Cheshire, Yorkshire and Staffordshire, including operational line management, project development, customer service, customer support, project management, training and development.
Brian has grown up two sons and has had the recent arrival of a granddaughter. He spends his spare time composing music on keyboards and guitars, photography, and travelling.
